- With £20 million on the table for communities in previously left-behind areas, Rother Valley MP Alexander Stafford says Rotherham Council (RMBC) must submit a strong bid for a slice of this funding.
- Rotherham classed as a Priority 1 area, meaning bids placed by our local authority have a high chance of success
Local Rother Valley MP Alexander Stafford has called on Rotherham Council CEO to submit a strong bid for funding to breathe life into neglected high streets.
Today in Parliament, he asked the Parliamentary Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, Eddie Hughes, what support his department could give RMBC to encourage them to put in a bid.
The Minister confirmed that Government will make £125,000 available for local authorities to support them in crafting and presenting a strong, commercially viable bid.
Commenting, Alexander said:
I welcome this funding, set aside to help local authorities pull together an impressive bid for a commercially-viable project and I very much look forward to working with RMBC moving forward.
This funding represents a huge investment for areas, like mine in Rother Valley, that have been neglected for too long, and the council must grasp this opportunity with both hands.
