- In Parliament today, Alexander Stafford MP asked Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Barclay MP, to confirm that the Levelling Up Fund presented a unique opportunity to invest in our high streets at a time when they most need support
- In the wake of the pandemic, already-struggling high streets like those across Rother Valley desperately need financial support
Alexander Stafford, local MP for Rother Valley, asked Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Barclay MP, a question on the Levelling Up Fund and the economic opportunity that it presents to struggling high streets, like many of those in his Rother Valley constituency.
Commenting, Alexander said:
As we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic, our high streets need more support to survive than ever before.
Today the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Barclay MP, agreed with me that: a) Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council must submit a strong bid to access the £20 million in funding for Rother Valley as part of the government’s Levelling Up Fund. b) It would be a good idea to invest in and revitalise our local high streets if this bid is successful.
