Aston Fence Road Safety
Residents may be aware that I have been liaising with residents in Aston to improve road safety in the village, especially around schools.
I have been campaigning to improve the safety of our roads by pulling together a petition to introduce 20mph zones in certain accident back spots including around Aston Fence School, with a view to reaching out to the wider community in due course, before presenting the petition to parliament.
I am calling on Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to improve Road Safety outside Aston Fence School.
I have spoken to pupils in the assembly last Friday, and previously I have spoken to residents, teachers, parents, and governors to raise this issue with RMBC.
I wrote to them on this matter myself, earlier this year. They refused to take it seriously and address the steps to make this stretch of road any better or safer. Signs and patrols have NOT worked. What is needed now, is a permanent 20 mph speed limit, and that is exactly what my petition is calling for.
If you think we need stronger and safer measures around Aston Fence School, please sign my petition below.
The petition of residents of the constituency of Rother Valley,
Declares that road safety measures must be strengthened and improved around Aston Fence School; and further that the existing 20mph speed limit, which is currently applicable during peak drop-off and pick-up hours in morning and afternoon, be in force at all times to protect pedestrians and drivers alike.
The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons call on the Government to urge Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to extend the existing 20mph speeding restrictions around the school so that they are in force at all times, rather than just during peak school hours.
Road Safety CANNOT be placed on the back burner for any longer!
