Local MP Alexander Stafford welcomes the £750 million support package for charities, announced by the Chancellor.

£360m will be allocated to charities in England based on the demand for services.

£370m will be to support smaller, local charities working with vulnerable people.
In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic and the effect it has had on charity funding, Alexander Stafford MP is backing the support package introduced by the Chancellor.
Charities are playing a key role in supporting communities and Rother Valley through the current Coronavirus crisis. Charities are able to defer VAT payments and pay no businesses rates under the measures, enabling them to focus on supporting those most vulnerable.
The new package of support also includes the government matching public donations to the BBC Big Night In fundraising event on 23rd April, starting with a contribution of at least £20m to the National Emergencies Trust appeal.
This support will ensure that charities can continue to provide vital services, that support our communities and vulnerable.
Commenting, Alexander Stafford MP said:
“I am delighted that the Chancellor has announced this funding package. The funding will support our charities throughout this difficult time and allow them to continue operating their services.
I know that charities are playing a key role in Rother Valley and it is vital that this funding is in place to support charities so that they can be there for our most vulnerable.
The package will ensure continuity of services and my aim is to get funding to those in greatest need as soon as possible.”
