- Rother Valley MP and longtime anti-HS2 campaigner Alexander Stafford reaffirmed his stance that HS2 was not wanted in Rother Valley on anti-HS2 day
September 9th marks Anti-HS2 day and Alexander Stafford, local Rother Valley MP, reaffirmed his strong stance that the 2b arm of the route was not wanted in Aston or any of Rother Valley.
A fervent campaigner for better regional transport links in the north, Alexander commented:
As you will know, I remain fundamentally opposed to HS2. We need better transport in the north but HS2 is not the answer. We need infrastructure that connects our towns, villages and cities before we embark on a grandiose project that will destroy 300 homes in Rother Valley and causes irrevocable damage to ancient woodlands and beautiful countryside. Having worked for World Wildlife Fund prior to entering parliament, I am very concerned about the impact of HS2 on our environment.
We need better connectivity in South Yorkshire and Rother Valley, but HS2 does not deliver this. I will continue, along with my fellow colleagues concerned about HS2, to keep up the pressure on the Government to rethink their plans.
