Today the Government announced that they are taking further action to crack down on disruptive protests, protecting the public from the misery of protest disruption created by a small minority of activists.
Recent protests by activist groups including Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil and Insulate Britain have hindered our emergency services and caused misery for millions of commuters.
That is why, through an amendment to the Public Order Bill, the Government is broadening the legal definition of ‘serious disruption’ to clarify when police should intervene to stop tactics such as blocking roads and slow marching, building on the powers the Government has already granted to the police to prevent protestors using guerrilla tactics.
The Government is giving the police the powers they need to tackle highly disruptive protests and end disruption to our emergency services and millions of commuters.
