- Local Rother Valley MP and animal lover, Alexander Stafford, raised the issue of pet theft in the House of Commons today, calling on the Government to back his campaign for South Yorkshire Police to appoint a dedicated Pet Theft lead
- A longtime advocate of this policy, Alexander has previously written to South Yorkshire Police (SYP) and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Dr Alan Billings to request the appointment of a Pet Theft Lead in the force
Alexander Stafford, local MP for Rother Valley, today called on the Government in the House of Commons to back his calls for South Yorkshire Police to follow the lead of Nottinghamshire Constabulary in appointing a dedicated officer to deal with reports of pet theft.
This is the latest action Alexander has taken on this issue, having previously written to South Yorkshire PCC Dr Alan Billings, re-elected in May, about the issue.
Responding, the Minister echoed Alexander's condemnation of this awful crime and welcomed the Rother Valley MPs efforts in this campaign, reiterating that individual decisions about policing remained with individual police forces and expressing his hope that SYP will work with their MP to bring this awful crime under control.
