It is good news that the £2 bus fare cap on single journeys in England is to be extended until the end of June.
The government has also committed £80 million to protect vital bus services
The Labour South Yorkshire Mayor - your elected representative responsible for public transport still has not replied to the concerns I raised with him back in September 2022 about cancelled bus routes to Crystal Peaks and the shoddy and unreliable service of routes across Rother Valley. I even challenged him directly on BBC Politics North last week about his refusal to respond and he repeatedly ignored the question.
I assume the lack of response is that he doesn't have the answer.
He has the power to bring buses fully under his control. He has the £1.3billion budget. He needs to look at how Manchester and Teeside mayors LEAD their regions for inspiration.
While the Mayor continues his political game of not responding to me and other Conservative elected representatives, I will go directly to the bus operators and/or SYPTE officials with any concerns raised with me by constituents.
