Alexander Stafford MP has today written to Dinnington St John’s Parish Council to reassure them of his backing in opposing the plans, which threaten to remove the land at the Miner’s Welfare Grounds in Dinnington.
The plans would see 150 homes built on the site, removing the space, and building homes that do not match the needs of local residents. The grounds are an important community space, hosting events and used frequently by residents.
The proposal would fail to meet the needs of the draft Neighbourhood Plan, which states the need to protect limited green and social community spaces, and the need for bungalows for existing Dinnington residents.
Commenting, Alexander Stafford MP said:
These proposals are of deep concern to me as Dinnington would suffer from less green and community space, which would never return.
The Miners Welfare Grounds are an important community space, which host events and bring benefits to the community. Future generations will be impacted if we lose this space for houses that simply do not meet the needs of local residents.
I have written to Dinnington St John’s Parish Council to express my support in opposing this development, and I will do anything in my power to prevent these proposals becoming reality.
