- Local Rother Valley MP Alexander Stafford has launched a campaign to save Sheffield Steam and Vintage Show
- The event, planned to take place in Anston as long ago as March, has been cancelled due to last minute demands from local council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC)
Alexander Stafford, local Member of Parliament for Rother Valley, has launched a campaign to save Sheffield Steam and Vintage Show, due to take place over the weekend in Anston.
Despite planning having commenced many months ago, RMBC has approached the organisers in the days leading up to the event with a list of demands relating to covid security and measures to mitigate risk of infection transmission. The organisers say that it is now too late to put the required measures in place.
Local MP Alexander has launched a petition calling on RMBC to allow the event to go ahead and has convened a meeting to take place tomorrow morning with organisers and local Councillors for the Anston and Woodsetts ward.
Commenting, Alexander said:
My inbox has been flooded since the Sheffield Steam and Vintage Show announced that they have had to cancel the steam fair this weekend due to last minute Rotherham Council demands.
The Government guidance makes it clear that these type of events can go ahead from 12th April, so it is unfair to the organisers to have extra demands put on them at the last minute.
We all need to come together and speak to RMBC with one voice, asking them to find a way forward. I will be speaking to RMBC tomorrow to plead the case – but I need your backing. If like me you cannot understand this decision, please sign my petition to show RMBC the strength of feeling this decision has caused.Only by working together can we protect this great institution. Do share the petition far and wide – the more people who sign up, the greater the chance that common sense will prevail.
