- Alexander Stafford, MP for Rother Valley, is an ardent and passionate campaigner for justice for victims of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)
- Attended Government briefing session focussed on response to these heinous crimes
Alexander Stafford, MP for Rother Valley and fervent campaigner for the rights of those affected by CSE, joined an MP briefing session led by The Rt. Hon. Sajid Javid MP, outlining the Government's response to this awful crime.
Here, he reports back:
2/3 of child sexual abuse cases involve a family member or someone well known to the child.
The Crime Survey of England and Wales estimates that 3.1 million adults are survivors of child sexual abuse.
Widespread internet access has created more opportunity than ever before for people who pose a sexual threat to children to contact them.
The internet has also made it easier to access appalling images and videos of children being abused- and even create a 'market' for them.
To top it all off, the horrors of the grooming gangs scandal exposed over the last decade has led to concern about Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) rising.
These high-profile grooming gang cases have shocked our community to its core, and we must ensure that the necessary lessons are learned so future children are protected.
Yesterday, my fellow Conservative MP, Sajid Javid, hosted a fantastic briefing session for MPs on the subject and presented the most recent report by the Centre for Social Justice on this issue.
I am particularly pleased that one of the key recommendations in this report is to introduce ‘Sammy’s Law’.
The full report on driving up our national response to CSE can be found here and I am keen to get residents' thoughts on it: https://www.centreforsocialjustice.org.uk/.../unsafe...
