Ever since I was elected, I’ve made it my mission to rejuvenate our high streets, returning our town centres to thriving, bustling places of shopping and leisure. My office sits opposite the burnt-out building on Dinnington High Street, it is something I see every day I am in the office and that’s why I am proud that the hard work of local councillors and I has paid off: securing £12 million for Dinnington High Street and a new banking hub as well as £800,000 for Maltby High Street, following a public consultation, from the Government and the Council.
There is, however, more to be done to return all the high streets and town centres to places we can be proud of. My plan make sure that we see similar investment across all the towns and villages of Rother Valley. Our town centres have seen decades of neglect from Rotherham Town Council, who chose to plough funding into a flawed plan for Rotherham Town Centre, and my plan will make sure all of us across the area see the fruits of levelling up.
- Get Dinnington High Street built – the Mayor has been sitting on his hands too long, I will get spades in the ground as soon as possible.
- Support further rejuvenation plans for areas overlooked – making sure that places that want funding – like Thurcroft high Street, Whiston Village Centre, or Todwick High Street – get funding.
- Create neighbourhood plans for every town and village in Rother Valley – bringing local views to understand what local people want from their high streets.
- Re-open Dinnington Police Station – bringing a local police presence will benefit the high street and the whole area.
